A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 26th at 11:00 AM at Moe Lutheran Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Concordia Cemetery.
Verland R. Orvis, Jr., age 87, of Roseau, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025.
Verland lived a full and meaningful life, shaped by hard work, love for family, and a deep appreciation for simple joys. Born to Amy and Verland Sr., he grew up with four siblings and carried the values of family and perseverance with him throughout his life.
After proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class, Verland built a long and respected career as a Certified Public Accountant. He approached his work with integrity, precision, and dedication – qualities that defined him in both his professional and personal life. Over the years, he generously shared his knowledge and support, helping many people along the way.
On August 7, 1960, Verland married JoAnn, and together they shared 65 years of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. He was the proud father of Donna and Steve, and found great joy in being ‘Grandpa’ by his three grandchildren.
Those who knew Verland will remember his adventurous spirit and the peace he found in being outdoors. Whether on the snowmobile trails, by the water, or in his garden, nature was his place of joy and renewal. In his later years, he especially enjoyed the quiet challenge of puzzles, a pastime that reflected his patient and thoughtful nature.
Above all, Verland will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his steady presence, the kindness he extended to others, and the simple joys he found in life’s everyday moments. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Survived by his loving wife, JoAnn; son, Steve Orvis; daughter-in-law, Barb Orvis; son-in-law, Bill Leary; and three grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Verland Sr. and Amy Orvis; brother, John Orvis; and daughter, Donna Leary.
