Marian E. Gislason (Lundgren) July 3, 1942 – September 25, 2025
With profound sadness and deep love, we announce the passing of Marian E. Gislason (née Lundgren) on September 25, 2025. Born on July 3, 1942, to Stanley and Alice Lundgren, Marian grew up in Roseau, Minnesota, as the beloved sister to Sanford, and later to Eugene, Gordon, and Gloria.
She was baptized at Rose Free Lutheran Church; her faith in the Lord served as her compass and source of strength her entire life.
Marian attended school in Roseau, but much to her parents’ chagrin, didn’t make it to graduation. A handsome young man, Luverne Gislason, had other plans. Swept off her feet, Marian married Luverne on June 29, 1958, beginning a partnership that would span 67 years. Together, they built a loving family and welcomed nine children: Maydell, Leland (died in infancy), Louise (died in infancy), Lowell, Myrna, Lori, Lynn, Marsha, and Lon.
Marian was a devoted stay-at-home mother until her children were all in school. She later worked at Town and Country Co-Op and Polaris Industries, retiring from Polaris after over 20 years of dedicated service.
In her younger years Marian enjoyed reading, gardening, tending to flowers, attending car races, camping, and visiting with family and friends. In her later years she enjoyed viewing the abundant wildlife – especially birds – from her front window and deck. She enjoyed crosswords, daily chats with her children and most importantly being surrounded by her family. Her greatest joy of all was being with her family, who meant everything to her! She was very proud of each and every one of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a very special and specific bond with each of her kids – not an easy task with 7 – but she made each of them feel loved and very special. No “chopped liver” amongst her seven!
Two years ago, Marian faced serious health challenges and began dialysis, determined to spend more time with the family she loved and adored. Thanks to the incredible care from dialysis centers in Roseau, Willmar and Alexandria, Marian met her goal of seeing the new “cabin” Lori and Kecia built on Lake Minnewaska and attending cherished Girls’ and Family Weekends in Glenwood. These extra years were an impactful gift to all who loved her.
Marian is survived by her husband of 67 years, Luverne, and her children and their partners: Maydell (Steve), Lowell, Myrna (Brad), Lori (Kecia), Lynn (Edine), Marsha (Troy),
and Lon. She is also survived by her sister Gloria (Gary) Wyer; sisters-in-law Suzie Lundgren, Shirley Johnson, and Anita Gislason; and brother-in-law Allen Gislason.
Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Misty, Kristy, Aaron, Shawn, Kayla, Tasha, Michael, Josh, Tianna, Shantel, Sierra, Luke and Logan; 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; 9 nieces, 2 nephews, numerous cousins, Godchild Carla Torgerson, and her very special friend Jody.
She is preceded in death by her infant children Leland and Louise; her parents Stanley and Alice Lundgren; brothers Sanford, Eugene, and Gordon; in-laws Lawrence and Bertha Gislason; siblings-in-law Wayne Gislason, Pat Gislason, Sharon Lundgren, Ron Haukos; nephew Jeremy Lundgren; and her beloved late-in-life, four-legged Golden Son, Thor.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Roseau Lifecare Dialysis Center for their professionalism and compassionate care. As a result of their outstanding efforts and person-centered care, we were blessed with many more moments of love, laughter, and memories with Marian.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
