08/25/2025

Caren Christine Lancette, age 55, passed away unexpectedly on August 11, 2025, in Roseville, Minnesota.

She was born on July 29, 1970, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Richard and Edith (Swanson) Lancette. Caren grew up in Roseau, attending Roseau Public Schools and Pine Crest Christian School in Warroad. She later earned her GED during her junior year at Badger School and went on to graduate from the nursing program at Northland Community College.

Caren devoted 35 years to her career as a nurse, serving in public health, as a traveling nurse, at Cass County Jail, and at Warroad Care Center. After sustaining a neck injury, she continued her love of caring for others by working with Roseau Public Schools in aftercare and as a substitute teacher.

Beyond her professional life, Caren was a woman of many talents and passions. She enjoyed making jewelry, reading music, writing and reading poetry, collecting rocks, riding ATVs in nature, and preserving family history. Her generous heart extended to many whom she considered her “foster kids,” and she will be remembered for the love and encouragement she shared with so many.

Caren is survived by her father, Richard of Roseville; her mother, Edith; her brother, Steven R. Lancette of Lafayette, Indiana; her uncle, David (Kim) Swanson of Roseau; her special friend, Jim Carlson, and his daughter, Kira; along with many cousins and extended family. She is also remembered by the countless lives she touched through her care and friendship.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clifford and Gladys Lancette and Conrad and Edith A. Swanson; her aunt, Donna Mae; and her uncle, Kenneth Ellenson.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, with interment to follow at Moe-Rose Cemetery in Badger.
