Gary O. Tweten, 76, of Wannaska, passed away on August 30 at Altru Hospital. He was born on July 14, 1950 in Thief River Falls, MN.
Gary grew up in Thief River Falls, moving to Roseau in 1972 where he met his now brother-in-law Dennis and was introduced to Diane. Gary and Diane married on August 26, 1978. Throughout his life, Gary worked in factories starting at Arctic Cat, then Marvin Windows, and then Polaris where he retired in 2014. Outside of work, he enjoyed playing guitar, singing, and being around horses. Gary found joy in listening to music, mainly country, from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, and had hundreds of CDs and records that he played almost daily. His pride was his children and grandchildren, always being their biggest cheerleader and was so proud of them. He enjoyed visiting with them and listening to what was going on in their lives.
Gary is survived by his wife, Diane (Kompelien), children Derek (Sarah) Tweten, Dustin Tweten, Deidre (Carter) Diesen, and Devon (Azure) Tweten, several grandchildren, mother-in-law Helen Kompelien, brother-in-law Dennis (Vonnie) Kompelien; siblings Bernice (Roger) Skime, Helma Knapp, Sharon (Al) Paggen, Wayne (LuAnn) Tweten, Nona Tweten, and Jean (Mark) Colliflower, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents Howard and Grace Tweten, father-in-law Ole Kompelien, and sister Adella Pearson.
A small family graveside celebration of life will be held at a later date.
