The City of Roseau has just over seven-point-four million dollars in reserve accounts. About two-point-two million dollars is held in cash reserves, with the remainder invested.
Roseau Municipal Liquor Store Manager Nikki Johnson told the city council that gross sales were up ten thousand dollars in January compared with January of 2025. She also reported the monthly customer count increased by 150 over the previous year.
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development is seeking proposals from local governments or nonprofits with experience in the operation, financing, advocacy, or advancement of child care services. This latest request for proposals round is for child care economic development grants. These investments are designed to increase the number of quality child care providers across Minnesota and support regional economic development.
A total of one-point-four-two-five million dollars is available statewide. Qualified applicants may request up to three hundred thousand dollars. To be eligible for the maximum amount, proposals must expand child care capacity at a minimum of two locations. Single-location proposals may request up to one hundred thousand dollars. The application deadline is March seventeenth.
The Lake of the Woods School Board will hold a special meeting this afternoon. The meeting will focus on selecting a construction company and architect, and possibly completing those contracts. Voters approved a referendum in November to fund multiple interior and exterior building improvements across the district.
The Roseau County Board will meet tomorrow for its regularly scheduled meeting. Meredith Cornett with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will present an update on the Winter Road Lake Peatland SNA restoration project. The board will also consider approval to install signal lights at the Highway Two railroad crossing in Badger. A more complete report on those proceedings will be available in the coming days.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reports that K-9 Rex passed away on February eighth, 2026. Rex recently became seriously ill and was diagnosed with Lyme disease and kidney failure. To relieve his suffering, the decision was made to humanely put him down.
K-9 Rex was a seven-year-old Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd mix and had served with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office since 2021. He worked and lived with his handler, Sergeant Ben Stout.
Middle River resident Cathy Erickson will be inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame on Friday, April tenth, at Turner Hall in New Ulm. Erickson is an accordion player and band leader. The thirty-sixth annual induction ceremony will highlight each inductee’s career through video and song.
Since 1989, the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame has honored 223 individuals and organizations for their contributions to music.
Citizens State Bank is partnering with USA Realty to offer an educational class on homeownership. The class will be held February seventeenth from five-thirty to six-thirty at the Roseau City Center. It is open to everyone, from those simply wanting to learn more to those actively in the home-buying process.
The Major County Sheriffs of America has named Amy Klobuchar its Legislator of the Year. The recognition honors her work championing legislation benefiting law enforcement agencies nationwide, including passage of the Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act to support police officers and firefighters exposed to toxic substances, as well as her efforts to advance next-generation 9-1-1 systems.
Young and Emerging Farmers Workshops were recently held, offering two days of classes and seminars for those beginning their farming careers. Organizers noted that when Minnesotans enter farming, there is no human resources department to guide them through workplace policies or expectations.
Day one featured sessions on tax preparation, first-time loan options, and preparing financial statements. Day two focused on insurance, safety, and next-generation succession planning.
