A Roosevelt couple will serve no jail time after pleading guilty to negligently storing loaded firearms in a manner that allowed their children access, resulting in the death of one child. The tragic incident occurred September 4.

During what had originally been scheduled as omnibus hearings on Monday, Danielle Elizabeth Stewart, 39, and Theodore Charles Stewart, 42, pleaded guilty to gross misdemeanor negligent storage of loaded firearms. They were each sentenced to 364 days in jail, stayed for two years of unsupervised probation. During that time, they are prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.

Investigators found 34 firearms in the Stewart residence. One was secured, while the remaining 33 were located in areas easily accessible to the family’s five children. Authorities say the incident involved an accidental discharge after the children obtained a loaded firearm and tossed it onto a bed.

Out-of-precinct caucuses held Tuesday showed Lisa Demuth emerging as the leading Republican candidate in early polling for next year’s governor’s race. Demuth received roughly 25 percent more support than Kendall Qualls, who placed second, followed by Mike Lindell.

Democrats did not release specific numbers but acknowledged that Amy Klobuchar is currently their leading candidate. Early polling from KSTP-TV indicates Klobuchar would hold a narrow lead over any of the top Republican contenders.
