Mae Jean Pederson passed away peacefully July 21, 2025 at the Warroad Senior Living Center at the age of 94.
Jean was born on March 12, 1931 in Lansing, MI to Max and Eunice (Craig) Jones. In 1935 Max and Eunice returned to their roots in Warroad, Mn. Jean was raised in a log cabin home built by her father from trees felled from Buffalo Point, floated across the bay, and up the Warroad river to a location near her grandmothers’, Anna Nay-na-wau-beke the daughter of Chief NaMayPuk, home.
Jean reflected on her high school years fondly, graduating Warroad class of 1949. She participated in choir and was a member of the cheerleading squad. She was selected homecoming queen and the friendships she made lasted a lifetime.
She met the love of her life, Harry Pederson of Roosevelt, MN and married on December 30, 1949. Early in the marriage they relocated to Eveleth, MN eventually settling in Minneapolis, Mn where they raised five children. Upon Harry’s retirement in 1985, they relocated back to Roosevelt, MN and built a retirement home.
Jean was active in her church, enjoyed flower gardening with Harry, berry picking, and canning from Harry’s amazing vegetable garden. She was excellent at baking. There was always something fresh baked and delicious waiting for anyone that stopped by. She enjoyed summer visits with her children and grandchildren (usually reported in the Williams paper), fall when her home was transformed into deer camp, and winter trips to St. Martin and Florida visiting her daughter and brother.
Jean is survived by daughter: Carol (Tim) Casey of Winter Park, FL, sons: Larry (Becky) Pederson of Roseau, MN; Vernon (Linda) Pederson of Corcoran, MN; Roger (Kim) Pederson of Green Valley, AZ; Jeffery (Lesa) Pederson of Ham Lake, MN, 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, her brother Roy Jones, Winter Park, FL, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years Harry Pederson, her parents, her brothers: Robert (Bob) Jones and Robert (Bob) Nelson sisters: Mary McCann and Maxine McEldowney
A memorial service for Jean will take place at 11:00am on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at the Warroad Baptist Church, 34649 County Road 5, Warroad, MN
