It is with heavy hearts and grateful memories that we announce the passing of Robert Michael Bartinski (Mike), who left us peacefully on October 23, 2025, at the age of 92.
Mike grew up with a deep love of the land and had a strong work ethic that shaped his life. He was a lumberjack who spent countless hours cutting timber in the woods. Mike also spent most of his life as a devoted farmer, tending to his fields with care and pride. Even after retiring, Mike could be found out in the shed — not with crops anymore, but with his collection of old cars and tractors, which he lovingly restored to their former glory. He had a gift for bringing things back to life, whether it was an engine that hadn’t run in decades or a piece of forgotten farm equipment.
Those who knew Mike will remember his tireless work ethic — the early mornings, the long days, and the quiet pride in a job well done. Mike believed in giving everything he had, no matter how big or small the task. Alongside that fierce determination lived a wonderful silliness — a playful sense of humor that could brighten any day, and a kindness that made you feel lighter. Mike also had a deep and unwavering love for animals that was evident in every aspect of his life. Whether caring for a beloved pet or rescuing strays, he treated every creature with kindness and compassion. Mike’s gentle heart and respect for all living things brought comfort and joy to both animals and people alike — leaving behind a legacy of empathy that will never be forgotten.
Of course, Mike was also delightfully stubborn — once he set his mind to something, there was no changing it. That stubborn streak, though sometimes exasperating, was a reflection of his strength, passion, and deep sense of conviction.
Mike leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. He is survived by his wife, Donna, of 66 ½ years. Mike met the love of his life at a wedding, and they courted for one year. Mike and Donna then eloped and were married at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa, on April 13, 1959. Mike is also survived by his children, Robert Bartinski (Nancy) and Susan Turgeon (Patrick); grandchildren, Stacy Wulf (Tyler), Aaron Bartinski (Chelsea), Jessica Turgeon, and Emily Turgeon (Brock); and great-grandchildren, Bradley, Taylor, Abigail, and Brielle — who will continue to carry forward his spirit in every act of hard work, every moment of joy, and every little bit of stubbornness that runs in the family. Preceding Mike in death were his father, Jacob Bartnicki; his mother, Annastazj (Nascia) Radaj; his brothers, Joe and George; his sister-in-law, Angeline; and his nephew, Wayne.
A private memorial service will be held for the family at a later date.
Mike worked hard, laughed often, and loved deeply — and in doing so, left the world a brighter, better place. His hands built, fixed, and created so much over the years, but it was his heart — generous and steady — that will be remembered most.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Roseau LifeCare Medical Center for the exceptional care and kindness you showed to Mike and the family. Your professionalism, compassion, and dedication made a difficult time much easier for our family. We are deeply grateful for everything you did.
