Last night the Roseau Holiday Classic kicked off at Roseau Memorial Arena with two big wins. In the early game, Mayville/Portland (ND) dominated Lake of the Woods 10–1 to open tournament play. Later in the evening, the Roseau Rams rolled to an impressive 8–0 victory over Kittson County Central, showcasing strong offense and defense in their first Holiday Classic matchup.

Today continues the Holiday Classic with two more games at Roseau Memorial Arena. At 4:30 p.m., Kittson County Central takes on Lake of the Woods, both teams looking for their first tournament win. Then at 7:00 p.m., Roseau faces Mayville/Portland, a rematch that could determine the early bracket pecking order and set the stage for Wednesday’s final round.
Roseau opened play Monday at the Mid-Winter Meltdown girls hockey tournament in Eden Prairie with a hard-fought four-to-three loss to Grand Rapids–Greenway. The Rams stayed right with Greenway throughout, but came up just short in a tightly contested opener.
Elsewhere in the tournament, host Eden Prairie earned a four-to-three win over Chaska-Chanhassen, while Cretin-Derham Hall cruised to a seven-to-one victory. On the other side of the bracket, North Wright County defeated Hopkins Park five-to-one, and Grand Rapids–Greenway edged Gentry Academy four-to-three. With those results, the Mid-Winter Meltdown continues today in Eden Prairie.

In a thrilling night of junior hockey at the 2026 World Juniors Championship in Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Team USA edged Slovakia 6–5 in a back-and-forth battle that saw the hosts rally from behind for the win. James Hagens scored twice and Will Zellers netted the eventual go-ahead goal as the Americans maintained their unbeaten run through the preliminary round. The close contest showcased high scoring and intensity, with both teams trading momentum before the U.S. pulled ahead in the third period. Meanwhile, Canada continued its strong start with a 9–1 rout of Denmark, highlighted by a hat trick from top prospect Gavin McKenna, keeping the Canadians undefeated in Group B play. In another key matchup, Czechia defeated Finland 2–1 in overtime, adding more drama to an already exciting Day 4.

Today’s schedule keeps the action rolling as teams look to solidify their positions in the group standings. In Group A action, Switzerland faces Germany in the early afternoon, followed by Latvia vs. Denmark in Group B, both games offering elimination pressure for lower-placed teams. Later on, eyes will turn to the marquee matchups on Dec. 31, but Dec. 30 focuses on these crucial preliminaries as the tournament heads toward New Year’s Eve clashes — including USA vs. Sweden and Canada vs. Finland, both key tests for the North American powerhouses.

The Minnesota Timberwolves delivered a dominant performance on the road, defeating the Chicago Bulls 136–101 at the United Center. After a competitive first half, Minnesota exploded in the second — outscoring Chicago 81–51 after halftime — to pull away decisively. **Naz Reid led the charge off the bench with a season-high 33 points while shooting efficiently from both inside and beyond the arc. Anthony Edwards added 23 points, continuing his strong season, and Julius Randle contributed 17 points and a team-high 14 assists in a well-rounded team effort. Minnesota shot a high percentage as a group and limited turnovers, helping them snap a brief two-game skid and surge ahead on the road trip.
Chicago was hampered by injuries to key players Coby White and Josh Giddey both exiting the game early, which weakened their offense and contributed to the lopsided result. The Bulls struggled with turnovers and lower shooting efficiency, giving Minnesota control for much of the second half. With this win, the Timberwolves improved to 21-12 on the season and continued a successful stretch against Chicago, extending their series win streak over the Bulls. Next up for Minnesota is a New Year’s Eve matchup as their road trip continues.
