Earl C. Johnson of Roseau, MN passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at the age of 82. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment at Falun Cemetery at a later date.
Earl Clarence Johnson was born in Roseau, MN on December 6, 1942 to Clarence and Angela (Kotta) Johnson. He graduated from Roseau High School in 1960. He married his high school sweetheart Carol Miller on April 25, 1964. Earl enjoyed his career of farming; his passion for farming was evident by his well-maintained farm, lawn and gardens. In 1999 Earl won the Roseau County Clean Farm Contest. In 2024, he received Outstanding Farm Leader of Roseau County and University of Minnesota Farm Family of the Year awards. He served on the Salol elevator board for many years and the ASC committee. Earl was an active member of Pine Grove Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. Earl battled heart disease and myeloid leukemia (2022). He did not let this stop him from doing what he enjoyed. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and trapping. Blueberry picking and drives through the woods were always enjoyable activities. Playing ball with his children and neighbor kids brought him joy. He was a jack of all trades, could fix anything and liked helping others.
Earl is survived by his wife Carol of 61 years; children Scott (Janine) of Salol, Lisa (Dan) Palmer of Harwood, ND, and Troy (Gwenda) of Roseau; grandchildren Zachary (Elizabeth) Johnson of Fargo, ND; Andrew (Amanda) Johnson of Moorhead, MN; Morgan (Adam) Schreiner of Tennessee Ridge, TN; MacKenzie (Cory) Nader of Fort Riley, KS; Jeran and Tucker Johnson of Roseau, MN; great-grandchildren Penelope and Charlotte Johnson, Ryker Schreiner, Eli Johnson and Jaxton Nader; sister Florence (Kenneth) Rygh; sister-in-law Geraldine (Russell) Erickson; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Angela Johnson.
