Jerome Lee Ziska, 67, passed away peacefully at his home on July 8, 2025.
Jerome was born on July 30, 1957, in Roseau to Edmund and Clara (Asleson) Ziska. He graduated from Roseau High School and married his beloved wife Jodi (Budd) Ziska on September 17, 1977, at Rose Free Lutheran Church.
Jerome dedicated 42 years of his life to the Roseau School, where he served as Maintenance Supervisor, bus driver, and custodian. He also worked for R&Q Trucking, Halverson Sand and Gravel, and the Cenex West Plant during his career.
A man of strong faith and community service, Jerome was a member of Rose Free Lutheran Church and served his community in many capacities. He was president of the Beltrami Forest Historical Society, volunteered for 10 years with the Roseau County Sheriff’s Posse, served on the Jadis Township board for many years, and was a State Fire Warden for over 20 years.
Jerome’s heart belonged to the outdoors and his home in Beltrami Forest. He found peace and joy in taking walks with his beloved dog Charlie, sitting at the base of trees listening to the wind in the branches, and picking blueberries in the woods. His love for nature and the simple pleasures of life defined who he was.
Jerome is survived by his loving wife Jodi Ziska; daughters Alison (Garrett) Tisdell of Bemidji and Ashley Sorrels (Chance Kline) of Roseau; grandchildren Kaiden, Jackson, and Brooklynn Tisdell, and Teagan and Tessa Sorrels, and Natalie and Brooklyn Kline; brother Len (Ellen) Ziska of Seattle, Washington; sisters Shirley Brawders and Linda Johnson of Roseau; brother Wayne (Monica) Ziska of Roseau; brother-in-law Robert Lofstedt of Hutchinson, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edmund and Clara Ziska; father-in-law Laverne Budd; brother Roger; sister Sharon Lofstedt; brothers-in-law Darrell Brawders and Jerry Johnson; niece Shelly (Ziska) Dokken; nephews Brian Lunde,and Mike Lofstedt; and his best friend and cousin Dale Holland.
A Funeral Service for Jerome L. Ziska of Roseau, MN will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 11:00AM at Rose Free Lutheran Church in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at Moe-Rose Cemetery.
