AT A RECENT ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD MEETING, DISCUSSION WAS HAD ON A GREENBUSH-MIDDLE RIVER SCHOOL DISTRICT TAX LEVY DISCREPANCY. THEY HAD DISCOVERED THAT THE AMOUNT LEVIED BY MARHSALL AND KITTSON COUNTIES RESULTED IN A TAX REVUE SHORTFALL OF JUST OVER $200,000 TO THE DISTRICT. A MOTION WAS PASSED TO MAKE THAT PAYMENT, AND ALLOW MARHSALL AND KITTSON COUNTY UP TO TWO YEARS TO PAY BACK THEIR SHARE TO ROSEAU COUNTY.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD ALSO DECIDED TO ALLOW THE CURRENT CONTRACT WITH AIRMEDCARE TO EXPIRE ON FEBRUARY 9. COORDINATOR PELOWSKI HAD REQUESTED CONSIDERATION OF A SIX-MONTH EXTENSION TO MONITOR HOW FREQUENTLY THE SERVICE IS USED.

AT A JANUARY ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL MEETING, THEY ADDED TO THEIR MISCELLANEOUS FEES SCHEDULE THAT THE COST OF A LICENSE FOR A BUSINESS SELLING CANNABINOIDS WILL BE $2000.
IT WAS SAID THAT LAKE OF THE WOODS BREWING WILL BE SEEKING THOSE AS SOON AS THEY BECOME AVAILABLE.
THEY ALSO MADE CHANGES TO ANIMAL IMPOUND FEES AND TO THOSE FOR POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS ANIMALS.
THEY HAD DISCUSSION ON THE BEST PATH FORWARD FOR A REPLACEMENT TO THE ICE COOLING SYSTEMS AT MEMORIAL ARENA.

AN ONLINE QUESTIONNAIRE IS AVAILABLE AS THE MINNESOTA DNR SEEKS INPUT ON DRAFTING A NEW LAKE OF THE WOODS MANAGEMENT PLAN. THAT PLAN WOULD BE IN EFFECT 2024 TO 2029. THE QUESTIONNAIRE WILL COVER ANYTHING FROM LENGTH OF SEASONS, TO LIMITS ON FISH, QUALITY OF WINTER ANGLING, AND MORE. THEY DO ALSO PLAN TO HOLD IN PERSON MEETINGS IN COMMUNITIES NEAR LAKE OF THE WOODS.

THERE WILL BE A FUNDRAISER SPAGHETTI FEED ON MONDAY FOR ROSEAU’S GIRLS HOCKEY TEAM WHO HAS QUALIFIED FOR THE STATE TOURNAMENT. THAT WILL BE AT GENE’S FROM 4:30-7:00, FOR A FREEWILL DONATION.

MINNESOTA TURKEY HUNTING LICENSES GO ON SALE MARCH 1 FOR A VARIETY OF SEASONS THAT BEGIN IN MID-APRIL AND RUN THROUGH THE END OF MAY.

Lois Peterson, of Middle River, MN, passed peacefully at the Thief River Care Center on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, with her family by her side at the age of 85.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at First Lutheran Church in Middle River, MN. Burial will follow at First Lutheran Cemetery in Middle River.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service on Monday, February 19, 2024 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also take place one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday at the church.
