CONGRESSWOMAN MICHELLE FISHBACH INTRODUCED TWO PIECES OF LEGISLATION WITH A PRO-LIFE THEME. THE FIRST WAS THE DE-FUND PLANNED PARENTHOOD ACT, WHICH WOULD PROHIBIT THAT ORGANIZATION FROM ACCESSING ANY FEDERAL FUNDS UNLESS THEY CERTIFY THAT THEY WILL NOT PERFORM OR SUPPORT ENTITIES THAT PERFORM ABORTIONS. THE PROTECTING LIFE AND TAXPAYERS ACT ENSURES THAT TAXPAYER DOLLARS DO NOT GO TO ANY ORGANIZATION THAT HAS NOT CERTIFIED THAT WILL NOT PERFORM OR PROVIDE FUNDS TO ANY ENTITY THAT PERFORMS ABORTIONS, WITH EXCEPTIONS FOR RAPE, INCEST, AND TO PROTECT THE LIFE OF THE MOTHER.

THEY SAY THAT CAN AFFECT CLASSROOM PERFORMANCE AND ALSO LEAD TO STIGMA AMONG THEIR PEERS. THE COST IS DIFFICULT TO PINPOINT, BUT THEY ESTIMATE A PROGRAM COULD COST ABOUT $185 MILLION PER YEAR. GOVERNOR WALZ CALLED FOR A BUDGET OF $813 MILLION OVER FOUR YEARS.
