AN ONLINE QUESTIONNAIRE IS AVAILABLE AS THE MINNESOTA DNR SEEKS INPUT ON DRAFTING A NEW LAKE OF THE WOODS MANAGEMENT PLAN. THAT PLAN WOULD BE IN EFFECT 2024 TO 2029. THE QUESTIONNAIRE WILL COVER ANYTHING FROM LENGTH OF SEASONS, TO LIMITS ON FISH, QUALITY OF WINTER ANGLING, AND MORE. THEY DO ALSO PLAN TO HOLD IN PERSON MEETINGS IN COMMUNITIES NEAR LAKE OF THE WOODS.

THERE IS A FUNDRAISER SPAGHETTI FEED TONIGHT FOR THE RAMS GIRLS HOCKEY PROGRAM AS THEY PREPARE TO HEAD TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT. IT’S AT GENE’S BAR AND GRILL FROM 4:30-7:00, FOR A FREEWILL DONATION.

THE NORTHWEST ANGLE EDGERIDERS WILL HOLD THEIR SNOW RALLY THIS SATURDAY. WITH THE LACK OF SNOW, THEY’VE CHANGED THE VENUE TO JERRY’S RESTAURANT AND BAR. THEY CONTINUE TO SELL RAFFLE TICKETS FOR THAT EVENT.

AT A RECENT ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD MEETING, DISCUSSION WAS HAD ON A GREENBUSH-MIDDLE RIVER SCHOOL DISTRICT TAX LEVY DISCREPANCY. THEY HAD DISCOVERED THAT THE AMOUNT LEVIED BY MARHSALL AND KITTSON COUNTIES RESULTED IN A TAX REVUE SHORTFALL OF JUST OVER $200,000 TO THE DISTRICT. A MOTION WAS PASSED TO MAKE THAT PAYMENT, AND ALLOW MARHSALL AND KITTSON COUNTY UP TO TWO YEARS TO PAY BACK THEIR SHARE TO ROSEAU COUNTY.

FLAGS HAVE BEEN ORDERED TO FLY AT HALF-STAFF BY GOVERNOR WALZ FOLLOWING THE DEATHS OF TWO OFFICERS AND A PARAMEDIC WHILE RESPONDING TO A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE CALL IN BURNSVILLE. THE CALL REPORTED THAT AN ARMED MAN HAD BARRICADED HIMSELF INSIDE A HOME WITH SEVEN YOUNG CHILDREN. THE SHOOTER WAS KILLED, AND ALL OTHERS WERE ABLE TO GET OUT SAFELY FOLLOWING THE EVENTS.

Lois Peterson, of Middle River, MN, passed peacefully at the Thief River Care Center on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, with her family by her side at the age of 85.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at First Lutheran Church in Middle River, MN. Burial will follow at First Lutheran Cemetery in Middle River.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service on Monday, February 19, 2024 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also take place one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday at the church.
