A regional meeting later this month will help shape suicide prevention efforts in Minnesota. The Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Unit of the Minnesota Department of Health, in collaboration with the Minnesota Suicide Prevention Task Force, is inviting community members to a listening session in Bemidji on February 24 from 10 a.m. to noon at Sanford Health.

They welcome participation from community leaders, public health and healthcare workers, educators, faith communities, youth program leaders, and individuals with lived experience related to mental health challenges or suicide.

To register, contact Kelly Felton with the Suicide Prevention Task Force by email at kelly.felton@state.mn.us.

The Minnesota Crop Improvement Association presented its highest honor — the Achievement in Crop Improvement Award — to Scott Habstritt of Roseau. The award, presented annually since 1972, recognizes exemplary service to the seed industry and outstanding leadership in agriculture.

MCIA also recognized Sharon Bring of Strandquist as a Premier Seed Grower awardee. The other awardee was Milo Ravndalen of Roosevelt.

The Warroad School Board met this week, and like many districts, is looking ahead to the 2026–2027 school year and approving school calendars. In Warroad, the board granted a waiver that will allow classes to start prior to Labor Day, to address the fact that Labor Day falls as late as it can this year — September 7.

The approved calendar will still allow the district to finish classes prior to Memorial Day in the spring.

The Ross Rink is holding a pond hockey tournament today, and there’s also a mite jamboree happening in Roseau.

The U.S. and Canada will meet for men’s hockey gold, and Warroad is into the Class A girls hockey championship this afternoon.
