GOVERNOR TIM WALZ HAS SELECTED BRAD LINDSAY TO SERVE AS COMMISSIONER OF VETERANS AFFAIRS. HE HAS BEEN SERVING TEMPORARILY IN THAT ROLE SINCE SEPTEMBER. HE IS A FORMER OLMSTEAD COUNTY VETERANS SERVICES OFFICER AND ALSO WAS PRESIDENT OF THE MINNESOTA ASSOCIATION OF COUNTY VETERANS SERVICE OFFICERS FROM 2008-2009. HE IS A VETERAN OF OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.

MINNESOTA DEMOCRATS ISSUED A STATEMENT CRITICIZING GOP REPRESENTATIVE NATALIE ZELEZNIKAR FROM DISTRICT 3B IN NORTHERN MINNESOTA, FOR HER TWEETING OF CONSPIRACY THEORIES THAT THE NEW MINNESOTA STATE FLAG WAS MEANT TO PAY HOMAGE TO A REGION IN SOMALIA. THE ORIGINAL DESIGN, SUBMITTED BY A 24 YEAR OLD FROM LUVERNE, FEATURED THREE STRIPES, SIMILAR IN COLOR TO THOSE OF A SOMALIAN FLAG. DFL LEADERS SAID HER CONSTITUENTS “DESERVE A REPRESENTATIVE THAT WILL WORK TO PASS PUBLIC POLICY THAT WOULD IMPROVE THEIR DAY TO DAY LIVES.”

U.S. Senators Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar have requested an Office of Inspector General audit of the Minnesota-North Dakota Postal Service after reports of consistent delays. They said “attempts to elevate the concerns of Minnesotans to the USPS have either been dismissed or met with assurances that everything is fine — that the reports of our constituents are incorrect,” they wrote. “This lack of transparency deepens our concern that the serious issues in the MN-ND district are not receiving adequate attention.”

FOR CRIMES THAT ALLEGEDLY OCCURRED IN 2012, A WANNASKA MAN HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH TWO COUNTS OF FIRST-DEGREE CRIMINAL SEXUAL CONDUCT. MARC RAYMOND, STOLTENBERG, WAS 15 AT THE TIME, NOW 26 YEARS OLD. HE MADE HIS FIRST COURT APPEARNCE ON MONDAY. A MAN, WHO WAS 8 YEARS OLD AT THAT TIME, BROUGHT THOSE ALLEGATIONS FORWARD IN MARCH.

NONE OF MINNESOTA’S 11 TRIBAL GOVERNMENTS OBJECTED, THEREFORE WARROAD SCHOOLS WILL BE ABLE TO KEEP THE WARRIOR NICKNAME AND THE WARRIOR LOGO. SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY LEADERS LOBBIED HEAVILY WITH STATE LEGISLATORS TO EXPLAIN THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE NAME.
