THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE WAS UNABLE TO CONVINCE THE IRS THAT THOSE TAX REBATE CHECKS MOST MINNESOTANS RECEIVED THIS SUMMER OF FALL SHOULD NOT BE TAXED. INSTEAD, THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WILL NOW TAKE TAXES OUT ON THOSE, AMOUNTING TO A HIT OF ROUGHLY $26 TO $286 DEPENDING ON THE SIZE OF YOUR REBATE. THIS MEANS THERE WILL BE A FORM 1099 COMING YOUR DIRECTION.

THE MINNESOTA BUREAU OF CRIMINAL APPREHENSION SAYS THAT AT LEAST 25 SCHOOLS AND NINE OTHER JEWISH FACILITIES RECEIVED IDENTICAL HOAX BOMB THREATS YESTERDAY. THE MOST LOCAL OF COMMUNITIES THAT RECEIVED THREATS WOULD BE DETROIT LAKES, BEMIDJI, AND BRAINERD.

A BEMIDJI MAN IS CHARGED FOR ALLEGED SEXUAL CONDUCT WITH A 15 YEAR OLD GIRL. 25-YEAR OLD HOBSON PIERRE IS AN EMPLOYEE WITH BELTRAMI COUNTY JAIL. THROUGH SEARCHES OF ELECTRONIC DEVICES, THEY FOUND THE TWO MET IN PERSON ON OCTOBER 5TH AND HAD SEXUAL RELATIONS. IT APPEARS THE TWO HAD MET ON A DATING APP, CONVERSED THROUGH SNAPCHAT. HE CLAIMS HE WAS TOLD SHE WAS 18, AND AND THAT HE DID NOT PROVIDE HER WITH ANY OTHER PAYMENT OR INCENTIVES IN EXCHANGE. A STATEMENT NOTES THAT “MISTAKE OF AGE” IS NOT A DEFENSE FOR THESE ACTIONS.

A REBDY MAN HAS BEEN SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS IN PRISON FOR HIS ROLE IN A 2019 MURDER ON THE RED LAKE NATION. DANIEL CHARLES BARRETT WAS ONE OF THREE DEFENDANTS IN THE MURDER THAT TOOK THE LIFE OF DANIEL ALAN JOHNSON. THE OTHER TWO THAT ALREADY BEEN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS AND 20 YEARS.

A BEMIDJI WOMAN HAS BEEN SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR THE MURDER OF ROY LOVELACE THAT HAPPENED LAST YEAR. 35-YEAR OLD CORA LEE QUADERER HAS SET A CAMPER ON FIRE NEAR CASS LAKE.

A CHEERLEADING PROGRAM IS BACK FOR THE ROSEAU SCHOOL, BUT IS BEING OFFERED THROUGH THE COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAM. IT’S OPEN TO THOSE IN 7-12 GRADES. REGISTRATION IS FREE, BUT EACH PARTICIPANT WILL BEAR THE COST OF THE UNIFORM. THERE IS PRACTICE TIME THREE DYAS A WEEK. ODESSA JONES IS THE CHEER CAPTAIN.

THE ROSEAU PUBLIC LIBRARY WILL CELEBRATE AN 85TH BIRTHDAY WITH AN OPEN HOUSE TODAY FROM 3-7 PM. THEY’LL HAVE CRAFT MAKING, COOKIES, COFFEE, AND HOT COCOA. YOU CAN SIGN UP TO WIN DOOR PRIZES.

A PANCAKE BREAKFAST BENEFIT FOR DON BREKKE OF GREENBUSH WILL BE HELD THIS SUNDAY FROM 9-1 AT THE GREENBUSH COMMUNITY CENTER, SERVED BY THE GREENBUSH-BADGER LIONS CLUB. FUNDS WILL ASSIST WITH MEDICAL EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH A LYMPHOMA DIAGNOSIS.

A Funeral Service for Kenneth Brateng will be held at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Skime on December 11, 2023 at 11:00am with a visitation an hour prior. A Visitation will also be held the night before at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau from 5:00-7:00pm with a prayer service starting at 7:00pm. Interment will be held at Bethesda Cemetery.

A PRAYER SERVICE FOR MIKE W. ERICKSON WILL BE HELD NEXT FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15, AT 2 PM AT RIVERSIDE LUTHERAN CHURCH IN WANNASKA. MIKE PASSED AWAY ON NOVEMBER 25.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR MARJORIE C. HELLQUIST OF ROSEAU WILL BE HELD SATURDAY AT 1 PM AT SPRUCE FREE LUTHERAN CHURCH. VISITATION WILL BE FRIDAY FROM 5-7 PM AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU AND ALSO ONE HOUR PRIOR ON SATURDAY. INTERMENT WILL BE HELD AT MICKINOCK CEMETERY IN WANNASKA. MARJORIE WAS 87.
