PRODUCERS IN ROSEAU AND LAKE OF THE WOODS COUNTIES ARE INVITED TO ATTEND THE 11TH ANNUAL SOIL HEALTH SUMMIT, SPONSORED BY THE SUSTAINABLE FARMING ASSOCIATION. THE EVENT IS IN MANKATO ON MARCH 13-14. THE LAKE OF THE WOODS SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT AND ROSEAU SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT ARE OFFERING A $500 STIPEND TO THOSE WHO ATTEND. TO SIGN UP, CALL EITHER OFFICE.

A NEW REPORT FROM THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT SHOWS THAT MANUFACTURERS IN THE STATE ARE CAUTIOUSLY OPTIMISTIC ABOUT THE 2024 OUTLOOK. 77% OF RESPONDENTS SAID THEY WOULD EXPECT PROFITS TO BE THE SAME OR HIGHER THAN IN 2023. CENTRAL BOILER COMPANIES RECENTLY HAD THEIR 31ST CONSECUTIVE BONUS DISTRIBUTION TO EMPLOYEES. THOSE TOTALED OVER $1.178 MILLION. THEY ALSO ANNOUNCED THAT FOR A 7TH YEAR IN A ROW, THEY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO KEEP AN EMPLOYEES HEALTH CARE PREMIUMS UNCHANGED.

THEY HAVE SPEAKERS ON ANIMAL HEALTH, GRAZING SYSTEMS ECONOMICS, AND FEDERAL PROGRAMS AVAILABLE TO PRODUCERS. IT IS HOSTED BY THE LAKE OF THE WOODS SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT. WALK-INS ARE WELCOME BUT AN RSVP IS REQUESTED AT 218-634-1842.

THE HISTORIC LUTSEN LODGE WAS DESTROYED IN AN OVERNIGHT FIRE. THE FIRE HAPPENED MONDAY NIGHT AND THE OWNERS SAID THAT IS SOMEWHAT LUCKY AS THEY THEN HAD NO OVERNIGHT GUESTS. THERE ARE 40 STAFF MEMBERS THAT WORK DURING THE WINTER, BUT NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THAT RESORT WAS FOUNDED IN 1885.

A BEMIDJI CITY COUNCIL MEETING ON MONDAY WAS INTERRUPTED BY VIRTUAL ATTENDEES USING RACIAL SLURS AND POSTING DISTURBING IMAGES IN THE ONLINE PORTAL. THE COUNCIL TOOK A 20 MINUTE RECESS AND ATTEMPTED TO RESUME BEFORE INDIVIDUALS ONCE AGAIN CHIMED IN WITH PROFANITY LACED RANTS. THE MEETING WAS THEN POSTPONED. A SIMILAR EVENT HAS HAPPENED AT OTHER MEETINGS FROM AROUND THE STATE, AND THE FIGURE THE CULPRITS ARE NOT LOCAL TO THE THOSE COMMUNITIES.
