IN NORTH DAKOTA, THE HOUSE VOTED 65-29 TO PASS A HOUSE BILL THAT WOULD RAISE THE SPEED LIMIT ON MULTI-LANE HIGHWAYS FROM 75 TO 80 MPH. THAT WOULD MATCH STATES SUCH AS SOUTH DAKOTA AND MONTANA. MEANWHILE, THE SENATE PASSED A BILL THAT WOULD ALLOW POLICE TO PULL OVER A VEHICLE IF THE DRIVER OR ANY PASSENGER IS SEEN NOT WEARING SEAT BELTS. CURRENTLY, A DRIVER CAN BE TICKETED FOR NOT WEARING A SEAT BELT, BUT ONLY IF PULLED OVER FOR A DIFFERENT REASON. EACH BILL WILL HEAD TO THE OPPOSITE CHAMBER.

A STUDY SHOWS THAT OVERDOSES ARE ON THE RISE IN NORTH-CENTRAL MINNESOTA. THE PAUL BUNYAN DRUG TASK FORCE PARTNERED WITH THE BCA AFTER THERE WERE NINE FATAL OVERDOSES IN LESS THAN TWO MONTHS. OVERDOSE NUMBERS IN THEIR SERVICE AREA HAVE GONE FROM 26 IN 2019, TO 88 IN 2020, AND TO 158 IN 2021. DEATHS OVER THAT TIME HAVE MULTIPLIED FIVE TIMES.

THANKS TO A $100,000 GRANT, THE GOODRIDGE SCHOOL WILL BE RECEIVING IMPROVEMENTS TO THEIR PLAYGROUND OVER THE SUMMER. THERE HAD BEEN A BIG PUSH FOR LOCAL FUNDRAISING THAT HAD THEM ON SCHEDULE TO DO THE PROJECT NEXT YEAR.

THE RALPH ENGELSTAD ARENA IN THIEF RIVER FALLS THIS WEEKEND HOSTS EXTREME INTERNATIONAL ICE RACING ON SATURDAY. RACERS WILL RUN BOTH MOTORCYCLES AND ATV’S ON THE COURSE. TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE AT TICKETMASTER OR THE RALPH BOX OFFICE.
