30-YEAR OLD BENJAMINE JOSEPH FORBES OF WARROAD PLEADED NOT GUILTY TO CLASS A FELONLY GROSS SEXUAL IMPOSITION ON MONDAY. IT’S RELATED TO AN ACCUSATION THAT HE ASSAULTED A WOMAN WHILE SHE SLEPT AT A AIR B N’B IN GRAND FORKS LAST AUGUST. HE WAS ARRESTED IN NOVEMBER. HE FACES UP TO 20 YEARS IN PRISON IF CONVICTED.

ALTRU AND LIFECARE MEDICAL CENTER HAVE SIGNED A LETTER OF INTENT TO EXPLORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR A NEW HEALTHCARE MODEL IN ROSEAU, WARROAD, AND GREENBUSH. ALTRU CURRENTLY OPERATES CLINICS IN THOSE COMMUNITIES WHILE LIFECARE OWNS THE HOSPITAL IN ROSEAU. THEY WILL EXPLORE ALIGNING HOSPITAL AND CLINIC SERVICES.

44-YEAR OLD MICHAEL JOHN SLUSAR OF WARREN PLEADED NOT GUILTY YESTERDAY DRUG-RELATED CRIMES. AFTER BEING SOUGHT FOR REPORTED RECKLESS DRIVING, HE WAS STOPPED BY POLICE AND WAS FOUND TO BE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF NARCOTICS. A SEARCH OF HIS CAR AND THEN RESIDENCE PRODUCED DRUGS, DRUG PARAPHRENALIA, AND SUSPECTED DRUG TRAFFICKING ITEMS. HIS CHARGES CARRY A MAXIMUM OF 20 YEARS IN PRISON.

ANDREW PERALTA, THE FORMER OWNER OF THE ROSEAU DAIRY QUEEN, AND SIBLING OF CURRENT OWNER, HAS PURCHASED THE SEASONAL DAIRY QUEEN IN BEMIDJI, AND HAS PURCHASED ANOTHE RBUSINESS WITH THE HOPES OF CONVERTING THAT INTO A DAIRY QUEEN GRILL AND CHILL. HE ALSO OWNS THE THEIF RIVER FALLS DAIRY QUEEN, WHICH OF COURSE, AS REPLACED WITH A NEW BUILDING OVER THE PAST YEAR OR SO.

A Memorial service for Roger Klemetson will be held at 2PM, Saturday, February 3, 2024, at United Free Lutheran Church in Greenbush with Pastor David Neimela presiding.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.
Interment services will be held at Badger Creek Cemetery at a later date.

A Funeral Service for Adolph L. Erickson of Wannaska, MN will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 11:00AM at Riverside Lutheran Church in Wannaska, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at Mickinock Cemetery in Wannaska, MN.
Adolph passed away at the age of 93.

A Funeral Service for Robert “Bob” A. Slick of Baudette, MN will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 2:00PM at First Lutheran Church in Baudette, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at Elm Park Cemetery. A reception and Celebration of Bob’s Life will follow the church service at the VFW in Baudette.
Bob passed away at the age of 76.

A memorial service for Vernon(Bud), Leroy Johnson will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Roseau, Minnesota. Bud passed away on December 29, 2023 at Oak Manor in Roseau, Minnesota at the age of 94 years.

OVER $6 MILLION WILL BE AWARDED TO COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE STATE FOR CHILD CARE GRANTS, AND PROPOSALS FROM COMMUNITIES AND ORGANIZATIONS CAN BE SUBMITTED. THE MONEY CAN BE USED FOR EXPANDING CHILD CARE BUSINESSES, FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS, WORKER TRAINING, ATTRACTION AND RETENTION, LICENSING AND OTHER THINGS. THE DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WILL ISSUE THE GRANTS. THEY WILL HAVE ANOTHER GRANT ROUND LATER THIS YEAR, ALSO OF OVER $6 MILLION.

POLICE ARE LOOKING INTO A POSSIBLE ABDUCTION IN A RURAL AREA JUST SOUTHEAST OF EAST GRAND FORKS. A 17-YEAR OLD GIRL WAS FOUND THERE ON MONDAY AFTERNOON, TIED UP ALONG THE ROAD. THE GIRL TOLD INVESTIGATORS SHE WAS KIDNAPPED AND DROPPED OFF THERE. SHE WAS CLEARED MEDICALLY AFTER A VISIT TO ALTRU HOSPITAL. THE POLK COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE DIDN’T HAVE MUCH FOR INFORMATION AT THE TIME, AND WERE CURRENTLY CONCERNED WHETHER THERE WAS ADDITIONAL THREAT TO THE PUBLIC.

TAYLOR DRIFT, CLARK W BLIZZWALD, DOLLY PLOWTON, BEYONSLEIGH, YOU’RE KILLIN’ ME SQUALLS, FAST AND FLURRIOUS, AND BARBIE’S DREAM PLOW ARE THE WINNING SNOW PLOW NAMES FROM THIS YEAR’S CONTEST IN MINNESOTA. ONE OTHER, WAIPAHINTE, WHICH IS THE DAKOTA WORD FOR SNOWPLOW. ONE PLOW WILL GO TO EACH OF MINNESOTA’S EIGHT DISTRICTS.
