A Funeral Service for Palmer E. Norberg of Roseau, MN will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at 12:00PM at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Skime. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at Bethesda Cemetery in Skime.
Palmer Elder Norberg was born on August 9, 1935 to Lester August and Olga Brenhaug Norberg and passed away at the age of 89 on March 1, 2025, peacefully surrounded by his family. Palmer was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend to everyone he came in contact with. Palmer was baptized at Spruce Lutheran Church in Roseau, confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.
Palmer graduated from Roseau High School in 1953, then enlisted in the US Army in 1955, trained at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and Fort Riley, Kansas, plus 24 months in Germany as a construction machine operator. He served with Highway Equipment platoon 41st engineer battalion, until his honorable discharge in 1958. Palmer did construction work in Chicago, and was introduced to Glenda by his cousin, Frank. Both Palmer and Glenda were attendants for Frank and Lois’s wedding and were engaged on that special day.
Palmer and Glenda Solberg were married June 20, 1959, in Skime MN, at Bethesda Lutheran Church. They moved to Minneapolis where Palmer worked at Hiawatha metalcraft machine shop until 1967. While living in Minneapolis they were blessed with 3 sons, Myron, Paul, and David. Palmer and Glenda bought a farm in Skime in 1964 and moved there in 1967. In 1969, they welcomed their only daughter, Shawna. Palmer worked at Polaris for 19 years, then went to Marvin Windows and retired in 2000.
Palmer enjoyed spending time with his family, deer hunting, and fishing. He served on the church council, volunteered at the nursing home, and loved attending his grandkids events. Palmer and Marlow Johnson spent many good hunting seasons together. They also made many trips to Grygla for rutabagas for soup for deer camp. He also enjoyed many trips to Montana and Colorado elk hunting and mule deer hunting with his sons.
Palmer coached the Wannaska Saturday Morning Hockey League, many kids in the area were able to enjoy hockey because of Palmer’s kindness and willingness to pick them up and coach them.
Palmer is survived by his wife Glenda, of 65 years, their sons, Myron (Kathy), Paul (Lynn), David (Cathy), and daughter, Shawna (Tom) Friederichs. Grandchildren-Rachel Burr, Mitchel (Chantal) Norberg, Andrew (Lexie), Ryan, Chelsea Norberg, Hana (Alex) Barthel, Madison (Jordan) Eidenschink, Mason, Malachi (Emma) Friederichs. Great grandchildren- Gage, Bo, and Cote Burr, Palmer and Davina Norberg, Luxley and Sylas Barthel, Declan and Ryker Eidenschink, and Harley Friederichs; Sisters- Pearl Pim, Darlene (Dean) Stricklin and Marilyn (Curtis) Swanson. Brothers-in-Laws-Galyn (Sheila) Solberg, Lyle (Sharon) Solberg; Sister-in-law Aleda Marshall; and many nieces and nephews.
