Gii shi bah ho sah, Ron Prelvitz, 57, began his journey in his home just a few miles outside of his beloved community of Warroad, Minnesota on Saturday, October 15, 2022.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, he will be greatly missed by his family, his friends, and his community.

Ronald E. Prelvitz (57) of Warroad, MN. Sunrise: May 27, 1965. Sunset: October 15, 2022.

Ron was born to Ronald Harold Prelvitz and Georgina Marie (Cobiness) Prelvitz on May 27th, 1965, in Milwaukee, WI. Ron grew up in Warroad, MN, attending Warroad Elementary and Warroad High School. He then went on to graduate from Northland Community and Technical College with a Body Technician degree.

In 1988 Ron was united in marriage to Leola (Crandall) Palm. They began their lives together in Fargo, ND, where they had two children: Ronnie and Melissa. Ron and Leola later went their separate ways but maintained a great relationship.

In 2002 Ron met his match and soulmate Joanna Collins. Ron stepped right in as a father to daughter Taylor Collins, and he and Joanna had son Joseph in 2005.

As a respected Ojibwe community leader Ron’s love of his Ojibwe heritage was always apparent in his efforts to teach, share and learn. He shared these traditions with his children and he and Joanna were always involved in the Ojibwe community stretching far outside of Warroad. He was involved and instrumental in shaping the Indian Education Program at Warroad.

Ron loved hockey and coached Joe’s Tiny Mites and Mites teams. Watching each kid grow and succeed on and off the ice filled his heart with joy. He loved staying active in Old Timers hockey, skating at the Gardens and tournaments with the Roosevelt Roosters.

He was an inspiration and a mentor, and beyond generous with his time and his knowledge. He loved his family and community beyond measure and will be missed by so many.

Ron accomplished much with his time here, but the Creator needed him for other work, and it was time to call him home.

He is survived by his beloved wife Joanna, adored children Ronnie (Nalirath) Crandall of Grand Forks, ND, Melissa (Brent) Crandall of Warroad, MN, Taylor (Nova) Collins of Fargo, ND, and Joseph Prelvitz of Warroad, MN. Grandchildren Tanner, Macklin, and Kinsley. Siblings Annie (Tim) Hartley of Warroad, MN, Jackie (Jason) Oslund of Wannaska, MN, Doug Prelvitz of Winnipeg, Manitoba and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents Ronald H. Prelvitz and Georgina (Cobiness) Prelvitz, brother William “Bill” Prelvitz, and nephew Everett W. Huggins.
