Dion David Hebel passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. He was surrounded in love with family by his side in Buffalo Point, Manitoba.
Dion was born July 1, 1967, in Roseau, Minnesota to David and Beatrice (Prasek) Hebel. From a very young age, Dion loved sports, especially hockey and baseball. He started playing hockey on the kitchen floor and as he grew, he spent endless hours at the Sprague arena. He even skated 10 hours straight without stopping to eat in the local Skate-a-thon!
His teen summers were spent playing baseball and softball, forming Team Canada and winning many slow pitch tournaments. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and water skiing. He loved duck hunting and trapping with his Grandpa Prasek.
He was an incredible big brother and taught his siblings everything he knew about sports. Hockey was his love and in Grade 9, Dion moved to Warroad to play. It was here he met the love of his life, Lisa Biondi. Their life would begin in Warroad and as Dion shared at Lisa’s 60th birthday celebration, if he had to do life over, he “would choose her all over again.”
While in Warroad, Dion was a three-sport athlete in high school also playing football and baseball. Following his football senior season, Dion left Warroad and played in the USHL with the Madison Capitols for two years. He then returned to Warroad and began working for Marvin Windows and Doors.
He and Lisa were married on November 8, 1986. Dion worked as a supervisor for Heatmor while in Warroad. They had two beautiful children, Brittany and Brett. They passionately followed the kids and all their activities while enjoying summers in Buffalo Point fishing, camping, and golfing. Warroad was home for many years as they raised their children.
Family was very important to Dion, as were his friends. He loved sitting around the campfire, drink in hand, telling stories and listening to his Goo Goo Dolls. Many weekends were filled playing in slo-pitch tourneys as “Easy Money” and men’s fast pitch for “Vassar”.
His love for hockey continued through life as he played for the Warroad Lakers and the LaBroquerie Habs. He made many lifelong friends through these years, friendships that formed a core group of men who continued to support him through life.
Dion and Lisa moved to Manitoba where he worked for FPM Peat Moss as a supervisor in Vassar. They built a home in Buffalo Point where they enjoyed their time together and the peace of the outdoors.
He most recently became a “Papa” to Emma who brought him so much joy and love. His role as grandpa became one of his most treasured and he looked forward to hugs from Emma and time spent together.
He will be remembered for his natural ability to give a good speech, his quick wit and deep love for family and friends, his and Carey’s polar plunge, his loyalty to the Jets, Cowboys, Blue Jays and as Lisa’s forever love.
In the words of his favorite band, Goo Goo Dolls.
“You are the memory that won’t ever lapse, when twenty-five years have suddenly passed, wherever you take me, it’s clear I will go, Your love’s the one love that I need to know.” – Goo Goo Dolls, Boxes.
Dion is survived by his wife of 39 years, Lisa, and their two children, Brittany (Matt) Gearman and Brett Hebel. Granddaughter Emma. His father, Dave Hebel and mother, Beatrice (Prasek) Hebel. Sisters Leah (Ross) Mateychuk and Shannon (Chad) Cote. Brother Carey (Rae-Anne) Hebel. Mother-in-law Marilyn Biondi. Sister-in-laws Kristin (Aaron) Biondi-Rislov and Lyndsey (Ty) Cole.
