ON THE EVENING OF APRIL 6, THE ROSEAU COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE RESPONDED TO A SINGLE MOTOR-VEHICLE ACCIDENT SOUTH OF WARROAD ON 580TH AVENUE. THE LONE OCCUPANT AND SUSPECTED DRIVER WAS 41-YEAR OLD BRUCE SHAUGABAY OF ROSEAU. THE VEHICLE LEFT THE ROADWAY AND STRUCK SEVERAL TREES. SHAUGABAY WAS TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE AND CREWS USED MECHANICAL EXTRACTION TOOLS TO REMOVE HIM FROM THE WRECKAGE. HE WAS AIRLIFTED TO GRAND FORKS BY HELICOPTER. THE ACCIDENT REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

THE CITY OF ROSEAU HAS RECENTLY ANNOUNCED THE INSTALLATION OF PUBLIC USE PICKLE BALL COURTS, ADJACENT TO THE HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS COURTS. THEY ALSO ANNOUNCED THAT THE GATES HAVE BEEN OPENED AND THE CITY PARK IS OPEN FOR THE SEASON.

DIGIKEY RECENTLY ANNOUNCED THAT SOME JOBS ARE BEING TRANSITIONED TO A GLOBAL CENTER IN INDIA. ABOUT 85 TEAM MEMBERS IN THE DATA MANAGEMENT, QUOTES AND OPERATIONS WORK WILL BE OFFERED OTHER POSITIONS AND AN OPTION TO REMAIN WITH THE COMPANY. A CITY ADMINISTRATOR SAID THEY ARE NOT ALARMED, SAYING IT’S A “REGULAR BUSINESS PRACTICE” OF THE COMPANY. DIGIKEY OFFICIALS SAID THEY HAVE OUTPACED THE LOCAL WORKFORCE MARKET.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IS REMINDED PEOPLE TO BE CAUTIOUS DURING WILDFIRE SEASON. RIGHT NOW, WITH NO SNOW COVER, AND VEGETATION HAS REACHED THE “GREEN UP” STAGE IS ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS TIMES OF YEAR, PARTICULARLY IF YOU MIX IN HIGH WIND CONDITIONS. THE FIRST RED FLAG WARNING OF THE YEAR WAS ISSUED LAST WEEK.

A funeral service for Shawn Olson of Glyndon, MN will take place on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 11:00 am at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau with a visitation an hour prior. Interment will be held at Mickinock Cemetery in Wannaska.

A funeral service for June Hagen of Badger will take place on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Badger at 11:00am with a visitation an hour prior. A visitation will also take place the night before at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Interment will be held at Badger City Cemetery in Badger.

Brian’s family will host a visitation and celebration of life on April 13, 2024 at 3:00pm at Helgeson’s funeral home in Warroad, MN with coffee and donuts, two of the things he looked forward to most each morning. In lieu of flowers, please direct your memorials to the Lifecare Cancer Center fund in Roseau, MN.

A Memorial Service for Marilyn J. Dahlquist will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 2:00PM at the Malung Community Center. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN.
Marilyn passed away at the age of 89.
