THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD HAS SIGNED OFF ON AN OPIOID SETTLEMENT, NEGOTIATED BY THE ASSOCIATION OF MINNESOTA COUNTIES WITH THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE. ROSEAU COUNTY IS EXPECTED TO RECEIVE MORE THAN FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS OVER EIGHTEEN YEARS THROUGH THE TERMS OF THAT SETTLEMENT.

A NEW CELL SITE IS IMPROVING VOICE AND BROADBAND SERVICE FOR THOSE AT THE NORTHWEST ANGLE, BOTH FOR RESIDENTS AND PUBLIC SAFETY PERSONNEL. THE SITE IS PART OF THE FIRST-NET CELLULAR NETWORK, A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE FIRST RESPONDER NETWORK AUTHORITY AND AT&T. IN CASE OF A PUBLIC EMERGENCY, THE NETWORK HAS THE ABILITY TO BLOCK ALL USERS THAT ARE NOT EMERGENCY PERSONNEL.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE TO CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF RODNEY “ROCKY” NEWTON OF THIEF RIVER FALLS WILL BE HELD ON MONDAY (1 PM) AT JOHNSON FUNERAL SERVICE IN THIEF RIVER FALLS. BURIAL WILL FOLLOW AT ST. OLAF CEMETERY IN GRYGLA. VISITATION WILL BEGIN TWO HOURS PRIOR TO MONDAYS SERVICE. RODNEY WAS 74.

Authorities say at least five people died when a powerful storm system swept across the Great Plains and Midwest, spawning hurricane-force winds and likely tornadoes in Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota. Officials say a 65-year-old man was killed Wednesday night when a 40-foot tree fell on him outside his home in southeastern Minnesota.
