THE ROSEAU TIMES REGION THIS WEEK HAS A STORY ON THE PROPOSED ROSEAU WELLNESS CENTER, AND A PITCH MADE TO A SENATE CAPITAL INVESTMENT COMMUNITY. THE WELLNESS CENTER, PROPOSED TO BE BUILT ON THE NORTHWEST PORTION OF THE ROSEAU SCHOOL PROPERTY, WOULD INCLUDE AN INDOOR POOL, GYM, INDOOR PLAYGROUND, WALKING TRACK, ALONG WITH A WELLNESS SPACE AND MEETING ROOMS.

SOME NOTES FROM AN EARLY AUGUST ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD MEETING, THEY HAD FURTHER DISCUSSION ABOUT A DANGEROUS DOG DETERMINATION, AND AFTER THE OWNER HAD APPEALED THE DECISION, THE BOARD VOTED TO AFFIRM THE DETERMINATION. THAT OWNER MUST NOW MEET CERTAIN REQUIREMENTS TO KEEP THE DOG. THE BOARD ALSO DISCUSSED A TAX ABATEMENT RELATED TO THE PLANNED 47-UNIT APARTMENT COMPLEX IN ROSEAU. THEY HEARD MNDOT IS REQUESTING GRANT FUNDING THAT COULD GO TOWARD A HIGHWAY 11 REALIGNMENT PROJECT BETWEEN BAUDETTE AND INTERNATIONAL FALLS THAT WOULD ALIGN THE HIGHWAY TO AVOID TWO CRITICAL SLOPE FAILURES ALONG THE RAINY RIVER.

30-YEAR OLD LARENA JACKSON OF CASS LAKE IS CHARGED WITH MURDER OF HER TWO YEAR CHILD.. SHE IS FACING A SECOND-DEGREE MURDER CHARGE, FIRST-DEGREE ASSAULT CHARGE AND MALICIOUS PUNISHMENT OF A CHILD. DISPATCH HAD RECEIVED A CALL OF A CHILD BEING RUN OVER BY A VEHICLE IN WILKINSON TOWNSHIP, 5 MILES SOUTH OF CASS LAKE. FURTHER INVESTIGATIONS LED THEM TO BELIEVE THE CHILD’S INJURIES WERE FROM BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA AND NOT FROM AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT.

THERE IS A BLOOD DRIVE IN GREENBUSH TOMORROW AFTERNOON AT THE UNITED FREE LUTHERAN CHURCH. APPOINTMENTS ARE AVAILABLE.

FIRST HALF TAXES ARE DUE ON ALL MOBILE HOMES BY AUGUST 31 TO THE ROSEAU COUNTY TREASURERS OFFICE. POSTMARKS ARE ACCEPTED, OTHERWISE, LATE PAYMENTS WILL BE CHARGED A PENALTY.
