GOVERNOR TIM WALZ ANNOUNCED $20 MILLION IN GRANTS TO HELP SPECIAL EDUCATION IN MINNESOTA. ABOUT $13 MILLION WILL GO TO GREATER MINNESOTA COMMUNITIES, WHILE ABOUT $7 MILLION WILL BE USED IN THE METRO AREA. THERE IS APPROXIMATELEY 150 SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT WILL BENEFIT FROM THE MONEY.

41-YEAR OLD MICHAEL CROUD FROM THE WHITE EARTH RESERVATION WILL SPEND 40 YEARS IN PRISON FOR SHOOTING AND KILLING HIS COUSIN, 35-YEAR OLD DAVID HANKS. HE MADE A STATEMENT SAYING THAT HE SHOT HIM BECAUSE HANKS HAD MADE THREATENING STATEMENTS TOWARDS HIM AND HIS FAMILY, ALLEGEDLY OVER A DISPUTE OF CROUD OWING HIM $50. HE APOLOGIZED TO THE FAMILY IN ATTENDANCE, BUT ALSO CONFRONTED THEM AS TO WHY NO ONE SEEMED CONCERNED FOR HIS WELL BEING WHILE HE WAS ALIVE.

A BASE-WIDE LOCKDOWN WAS ISSUED YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AT THE GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE AFTER OFFICIALS SAY A SINGLE GUNSHOT WAS HEARD NEAR THE MEDICAL CENTER. THE LOCKDOWN LASTED ABOUT 3 HOURS. THEY ALSO SAID THE SOUND COULD HAVE BEEN MISINTERPRETED AND COULD NOT CONFIRM A GUN WAS FIRED AND THERE NEVER WAS AN ACTIVE SHOOTER SITUATION.

A REPORT STATES THAT MINNESOTA CHILD CARE PROVIDERS ARE STRUGGLING WITH THE JOB MARKET AND HAVE NEARLY 700 OPEN POSITIONS, AND THAT RESULTS IN ABOUT 2000 POTENTIAL CHILD CARE SPOTS UNAVAILABLE TO FAMILIES. THAT SURVEY COMES FROM MINNEAPOLIS FED AND FIRST CHILDREN’S FINANCE. IT DID ALSO SHOW THAT OPTIMISM AMONG EMPLOYEES IN THAT SECTOR IS IMPROVING, GOING FROM FIFTY PERCENT TO NOW THIRTY PERCENT, WHO SAY THEY HAVE REAL CONCERNS OVER WHETHER THEIR CHILD CARE CENTER WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE ENDS MEET.
