THE LATEST ATTEMPT AT STUDENT LOAN FORGIVENESS BY THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION IS SET TO ASSIST MORE THAN 13,600 MINNESOTANS, AND ERASE APPROXIMATELY $645 MILLION IN DEBT. THE LATEST PLAN FOCUSES ON THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN IN INCOME-DRIVEN REPAYMENT PLANS FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. QUALIFIED BORROWERS HAVE BEEN MAKING PAYMENTS ON THOSE PLANS FOR 20-25 YEARS.

CONGRESSWOMAN MICHELLE FISHBACH HAS INTRODUCED THE INVESTING IN RURAL AMERICA ACT, WHICH IS MEANT TO REMOVE REGULATORY BARRIERS TO CAPITAL INVESTMENTS THAT SHE SAYS “ARE CRITICAL” TO SMALL COMMUNITIES, SUCH AS INVESTMENTS IN HOSPITALS, CHILDCARE CENTERS, AND SENIOR CARE CENTERS.

THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE SAYS THAT LAND ACCESS IS ONE OF THE MOST NOTED BARRIERS FOR EMERGING FARMERS TO SUCCEED, AND WITH THE AVERAGE AGE OF FARMERS INCREASING, MAKING LAND AVAILABLE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER. EMERGING FARMERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY FOR THE MINNESOTA DOWN PAYMENT ASSISTANCE GRANT, WHICH OFFERS UP TO $15,000 FOR QUALIFIED FARMERS TO PURCHASE THEIR FIRST FARM. JENNY HECK, WHO WORKS WITH THAT PROGRAM, SAYS IT’S FUNDED THROUGH THREE ROUNDS RIGHT NOW, THE FIRST OF WHICH ENDED IN JUNE. IT WAS A VERY POPULAR, HAVING RECEIVED 105 APPLICATIONS WHILE FUNDING COULD HANDLE GIVING OUT 32 AWARDS. THE SECOND ROUND HAS DOUBLE THE FUNDING.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR ALVIN “BUDDY” FUGELBERG OF ROSEAU WILL BE HELD SATURDAY (2 PM) AT FIRST UNITED LUTHERAN CHURCH IN ROSEAU, WITH VISITATION AN HOUR PRIOR.

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR KARL ENAR KARLSSON WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY (4 PM) AT BETHAL LUTHERAN CHURCH IN ROSEAU. KARL PASSED AWAY ON DECEMBER 31 AT THE AGE OF 105.
