AN ANISHINAABEG MUSEUM OF TREATIES AND CULTURE IN PARK RAPIDS IS CELEBRATING A GRAND OPENING NEXT THURSDAY. THEY’LL HAVE DRUMMING, DANCING AND OTHER ACTIVITIES PRIOR TO THE OPENING. WINONA LADUKE IS THE PROJECT COORDINATOR. IT’S LOCATED IN THE FORMER CARNEGIE LIBRARY.

SUGAR BEET FARMERS FROM NORTH DAKOTA AND MINNESOTA ARE DIGGING IN FOR THE HARVEST. THEY ARE EXPECTING IT TO BE AN AVERAGE OR ABOVE AVERAGE YIELD.

A GUILTY PLEA IS EXPECTED NEXT WEEK FROM THE MINNESOTA MAN CHARGED WITH STEALING THE PAIR OF RUBY SLIPPERS FROM THE GRAND RAPIDS MUSEUM THAT HONORS JUDY GARLAND. THE SLIPPERS WERE STOLEN IN 2005 AND RECOVERED BY THE FBI IN 2018. AN APPRAISAL VALUES THEM AT $3.5 MILLION.

MOORHEAD SCHOOLS ARE SAYING THAT SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS ARE BEING BROUGHT BACK INTO BUILDINGS, AND BRAINERD SCHOOLS SAY THEY ARE CURRENTLY WRITING UP A A NEW AGREEMENT THAT WOULD BRING THEM BACK AS WELL. NOTHING HAS CHANGED WITH THE LAW THAT LED MANY DISTRICTS TO END THOSE AGREEMENTS, BUT ADDITIONAL TIME HAS ALLOWED FOR DIRECTION AND BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE CURRENT LAW.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mani Starren will be held at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 10:30am. Visitation will be held one hour prior.
Mani was 34 years old.

A Funeral Service for Shannon L. Barnes of Warroad will take place Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the Woodland Bible Church at 3:00pm with a visitation an hour prior. Interment will take place at Silent City Cemetery in Roosevelt.
