THE SECOND MAN, MYLES SANDERSON, WHO HAS BEEN SOUGHT BY CANADIAN AUTHORITIES FOR 4 DAYS FOR HIS CONNECTION TO A STABBING SPREE IN SASKATCHEWAN THAT KILLED 10 PEOPLE, DIED OF SELF-INFLICTED INJURIES SHORTLY AFTER BEING TAKEN INTO CUSTODY. THE ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE SAID HE WAS APPREHENDED NEAR THE TOWN OF ROSTHERN, ABOUT 62 MILES SOUTHWEST OF THE AREA WHERE THE STABBINGS TOOK PLACE.

IN MINNESOTA DNR CONSERVATION OFFICER REPORTS THIS WEEK THEY NOTE THAT BEAR SEASON HAS BEEN BUSY WITH HUNTERS, BUT SUCCESS HAS BEEN LIMITED.

VETERANS FROM THE COMMUNITIES OF CROOKSTON, RED LAKE FALLS, AND FERTILE HAVE BEEN SELECTED TO GO TO WASHINGTON DC ON THE VETERANS HONOR FLIGHT, WHICH WILL DEPART GRAND FORKS ON SEPTEMBER 11TH. THE VETERANS WILL BE TREATED TO TWO DAYS OF VISITS TO MONUMENTS AND MEMORIALS IN THE NATIONS CAPITAL AND SURROUNDING AREA.

A CELEBRATION OF THE NORTHERNMOST AND SOUTHERNMOST COMMUNITIES IN THE CONTIGUOUS UNITED STATES IS PLANNED FOR SEPTEMBER 14-16 AT JERRY’S BAR AND RESTAURANT AT THE NORTHWEST ANGLE. THE EVENT IS CALLED THE NORTHWEST ANGLE BUOY BASH, WITH MEMBERS OF THE KEY WEST, FLORIDA COMMUNITY ON HAND. THE EVENT WILL BENEFIT LOCAL SCHOOLS.

THE WALK TO REMEMBER IS THIS SATURDAY AT ALLISON PARK IN WARROAD, WITH REGISTRATION ACTIVITIES AND PRE-WALK FESTIVITIES BEGINNING AT 9AM. THAT IS AN ALZHEIMER’S AWARENESS EVENT AND FUNDRAISER.

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR MELISSA A. WILSON OF ROSEAU WILL BE HELD NEXT FRIDAY (12 PM) AT ROSE FREE LUTHERAN CHURCH IN ROSEAU. VISITATION WILL BE ONE HOUR PRIOR. MELISSA A. WILSON WAS 42.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR LINDA LAFKY OF BAUDETTE WILL BE HELD SATURDAY (2 PM) AT CLEMENTSON LUTHERAN CHURCH WITH A VISITATION AN HOUR PRIOR. INTERMENT WILL BE AT CLEMENTSON CEMETERY. LINDA LAFKY WAS 83.
