A RELEASE FROM THE ROSEAU COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE REGARDING A FATAL SHOOTING IN WARROAD LAST NIGHT. DEPUTIES RESPONDED TO A HOME IN WARROAD JUST AFTER 8:00 LAST NIGHT AFTER A MAN CALLED SAYING HE HAD SHOT HIS WIFE. UPON ARRIVAL, 63-YEAR OLD DAVID CORNELIUSEN SURRENDERED WITHOUT INCIDENT AND THEY FOUND HIS WIFE’S BODY INSIDE THE HOME. HE IS ROSEAU COUNTY JAIL AWAITING CHARGES.

MINNESOTA EXPORTS OF MANUFACTURED GOODS IN The SECOND QUARTER TOPPED $6 BILLION, BUT THAT STILL REPRESENTS A 9% DROP AFTER WHAT HAD BEEN 8 CONSECUTIVE QUARTERS OF GAINS. IT DOES FOLLOW A NATIONAL TREND WHERE US EXPORTS WERE DOWN 7%. THEY NOTE, EXPORTS TO CANADA WERE DOWN SHARPLY, HURTING THAT NUMBER THE MOST.

THE NUMBER OF VISITORS TO THE BOUNDARY WATERS CANOE AREA WILDERNESS IS DROPPING BACK TO PRE-PANDEMIC LEVELS. THAT IS DUE IN PART TO THE REDUCTION IN AVAILABLE PERMITS. IN 2022, NEARLY 151,000 ENTERED THE AREA, DOWN 9% FROM A PANDEMIC-ERA PEAK OF 166,000. PERMITS HAD BEEN REDUCED BY 13%.
THIS WILL COME AS WELCOME NEWS AS VISITORS HAD BEGUN TO COMPLAIN ABOUT OVER-CROWDING.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is seeking volunteers to serve two-year terms in the Emerging Farmers’ Working Group.
Eight members are needed for the group that aims to make it easier for new and emerging farmers to create or sustain agricultural businesses,

THE ROSEAU TIMES REGION THIS WEEK HAS A STORY ON THE PROPOSED ROSEAU WELLNESS CENTER, AND A PITCH MADE TO A SENATE CAPITAL INVESTMENT COMMUNITY. THE WELLNESS CENTER, PROPOSED TO BE BUILT ON THE NORTHWEST PORTION OF THE ROSEAU SCHOOL PROPERTY, WOULD INCLUDE AN INDOOR POOL, GYM, INDOOR PLAYGROUND, WALKING TRACK, ALONG WITH A WELLNESS SPACE AND MEETING ROOMS.

A SOUTH DAKOTA MAN WAS KILLED IN A CRASH ON INTERSTATE 90 IN MINNESOTA, WHEN HIS FORD MUSTANG COLLIDED WITH A SCHOOL BUS THAT WAS CARRYING MEMBERS OF THE WASECA HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL TEAM. NO ONE ON THE BUS WAS SERIOUSLYL INJURED. IT HAPPENEDED NEAR THE INTERCHANGE WITH MINNESOTA HIGHWAY 22. NO DETAILS WERE GIVEN OTHER THAN THE TWO VEHICLES WERE HEADED IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS.

DATES OF HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION ARE COMING FOR THOSE IN ROSEAU COUNTY. A DATE FOR WARROAD IS AUGUST 31, ROSEAU SEPTEMBER 7 AND BADGER AND GREENBUSH ON SEPTEMBER 8. IT’S CAN BE BROUGHT TO THE WARROAD CITY SHOP, THE ROSEAU COUNTY HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE FACILITY, THE BADGER COUNTY SHOP AND GREENBUSH COUNTY SHOP.
