THE US DROUGHT MONITOR SHOWS MINNESOTA IN VARIOUS STAGES OF DROUGHT, WITH PATCHES OF THE MOST SEVERE SHOWING IN CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST MINNESOTA. EXTREME NORTHWEST MINNESOTA IS ABNORMALLY DRY, WHILE ROSEAU COUNTY IS LISTED IN MODERATE DROUGHT. NORTH AND NORTH EASTERN NORTH DAKOTA ARE ALSO IN VARIOUS STAGES.

47-YEAR OLD ERIC JARVIS HAS PLEADED GUILTY TO FATALLY ASSAULTING HIS GIRLFRIEND, KARI JO PETRICH, IN A HIBBING APARTMENT LAST YEAR. HE ENTERED A NORGAARD PLEA, WHICH ACKNOWLEDGES THE SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE AGAINST HIM, BUT HE WAS TOO INTOXICATED TO RECALL THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE EVENT. SENTENCING GUIDELINES WOULD SHOW AN EXPECTED SENTENCE AROUND 8 YEARS.

LAST TUESDAY, TWO PEOPLE WERE INJURED IN A TWO-VEHICLE CRASH ON HIGHWAY 89 NEAR GRYGLA. 65-YEAR OLD KIM SMEBY OF GRYGLA AND 80-YEAR OLD HARLAN ALBERT MOSTROM OF GONVICK WERE INVOLVED, WHEN HER WESTBOUND VEHICLE STRUCK HIS EAST BOUND VEHICLE. TWO OTHER PEOPLE IN A THIRD VEHICLE STRUCK DEBRIS BUT WERE NOT INJURED. THE DETERMINED ALCOHOL WASN’T A FACTOR BUT THE CRASH REMAINED UNDER INVESTIGATION.

A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL FOR DONALD BLAZEK OF MIDDLE RIVER WILL BE HELD SATURDAY (10:30 AM) AT ST JOSEPH’S CHURCH IN MIDDLE RIVER. VISITATION WILL FRIDAY (5 PM) WITH A DIVINE MERCY CHAPLET AND HOLY ROSARY AT 6:30, FOLLOWED BY A 7 PM PRAYER SERVICE. VISITATION WILL ALSO BE AN HOUR PRIOR ON SATURDAY. INTERMENT SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT ST JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC CEMETERY. DONALD WAS 86.
