SEVERE WEATHER SEASON IS APPROACHING AND ROSEAU COUNTY WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN STATEWIDE TORNADO DRILLS THURSDAY, APRIL 15TH AT 1:45PM AND 6:45PM. A REMINDER THAT IN THE EVENT OF A REAL TORNADO THREAT THERE ARE DESIGNATED TORNADO SHELTERS IN ROSEAU COUNTY. IN BADGER AT THE BADGER CITY HALL BASEMENT, IN GREENBUSH AT THE GREENBUSH HIGH SCHOOL, IN ROSEAU AT THE AMERICAN LEGION BASEMENT, SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, AND THE ROSEAU SCHOOL, IN SALOL AT THE SALOL LUTHERAN CHURCH, AND IN WARROAD AT THE GARDENS ARENA

ROSEAU HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL AND ATHLETIC DIRECTOR IVAN HIRST HAS BEEN HIRED AS SUPERINTENDENT IN THE LAC QUI PARLE VALLEY DISTRICT IN MADISON, MINNESOTA. HIRST’S HIRE WAS APPROVED MONDAY EVENING BY THAT DISTRICT’S SCHOOL BOARD. HE’S EXPECTED TO TAKE THAT NEW POSITION IN JULY. HE’LL SUCCEED GREG SCHMIDT AS SUPERINTENDENT AT LAC QUI PARLE, IN WESTERN MINNESOTA.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD HELD A PUBLIC HEARING TUESDAY ON THE ISSUANCE OF TEN MILLION DOLLARS IN GENERAL OBLIGATION BONDS TO FUND A ROSEAU COUNTY HIGHWAY SHOP, WITH AN ANTICIPATED INTEREST RATE OF LESS THAN TWO PERCENT. THE PROPOSED BOND SALE WOULD HAPPEN IN LATE MAY, AFTER THE COUNTY RECEIVES BIDS ON CONSTRUCTION OF THE HIGHWAY SHOP, WHICH WOULD BE BUILT AT THE CITY OF ROSEAU INDUSTRIAL PARK.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD APPROVED A BID OF JUST LESS THAN THIRTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS TO FINISH EXTERIOR WORK AT THE OLD LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER. THAT BUILDING IS OCCUPIED BY THE ROSEAU AREA FOOD SHELF.

THE CITY OF ROSEAU HAS RECEIVED OFFICIAL NOTIFICATION FROM THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION OF IT’S FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLAR GRANT AWARD FOR A PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE AT THE OLD DAM SITE, NORTH OF HIGHWAY ELEVEN.

THE CITY OF ROSEAU HAS APPROVED A NEW CITY/SCHOOL AGREEMENT. THAT AGREEMENT ALLOWS FOR JOINT FACILITY USE BY BOTH THE CITY AND THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.

THE ROSEAU SPEECH TEAM COMPETED IN THE SECTION 8A CONTEST YESTERDAY, HOSTED BY WALKER. THE SPEECH SEASON HAS BEEN LARGELY VIRTUAL. ROSEAU’S CO-CAPTAINS LELIA JOHNSON AND KATE KENNEDY ADVANCE TO THE STATE COMPETITION ON APRIL 24TH IN THE CATEGORY OF DUO INTERPRETATION. THAT STATE CONTEST WILL ALSO BE VIRTUAL.
