THE GRAND FORKS HERALD HAS A STORY ON THE NORTHWEST ANGLE ONE-ROOM SCHOOL HOUSE WHICH WILL REMAIN OPEN AFTER THERE WERE QUESTIONS ABOUT IT’S FUTURE. THEY HAVE A NEW TEACHER LINED UP THAT WILL TAKE OVER THE CLASSROOM, WHICH EXPECTS FOUR STUDENTS NEXT YEAR. THE SCHOOL FALLS WITHIN THE WARROAD DISTRICT, AND THERE IS A PUBLIC MEETING AT THE NORTHWEST ANGLE AT 6 PM ON APRIL 11 TO DISCUSS THE PLAN.

PROSPECTIVE BEAR HUNTERS HAVE UNTIL MAY 3 TO APPLY FOR A MINNESOTA BEAR HUNTING LICENSE. THE DNR IS OFFERING JUST OVER 4000 LICENSES IN 15 QUOTA AREAS. THAT SEASON OPENS SEPTEMBER 1.  TO AREAS WEST AND SOUTH OF ROSEAU, MUCH OF THAT IS A NO QUOTA AREA, WHERE LICENSES ARE SIMPLY SOLD OVER THE COUNTER.

NEXT WEEK IS SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK, AND STATEWIDE TORNADO DRILLS WILL BE HELD ON THURSDAY, APRIL 11. PLAN FOR SIRENS TO SOUND AT 1:45 PM AND 6:45 PM. OTHERWISE, EACH DAY OF THE WEEK HAS A DIFFERENT SEVERE WEATHER THREAT THAT IS HIGHLIGHTED.

A Funeral Service for Randy Erickson of Greenbush, MN will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 2:30PM at Oiland Free Lutheran Church in rural Greenbush, MN. Visitation will be held at the church starting at 1:00PM on Saturday. Burial will take place at Oiland Cemetery.
Randy passed away at the age of 73.

A Funeral Service for Deanne “Nanny” Johnson of Warroad, MN will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 11:00AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Warroad, MN. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Warroad, MN and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place in Devils Lake, ND at a later date.
Nanny passed away at the age of 66.

THE NORTHWEST MINNESOTA ARTS COUNCIL HAS ANNOUNCED IT’S “OF THE YEAR” AWARD WINNERS. MUSICIAN RANDY LARSON OF GATZKE IS THE ARTIST OF THE YEAR IN MUSIC, BETSY SAURDIFF, A POTTER FROM GRYGLA, WILL RECEIVE THE STAR AWARD, AND ROM OGAARD OF CROOKSTON WILL RECEIVE THE ARTS ADVOCATE AWARD. THERE IS A PUBLIC RECEPTION ON APRIL 21 AT THE HISTORY MUSEUM IN LAKE BRONSON.
