THE NORTHWEST MINNESOTA FOUNDATION IS PLANNING A “COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS” TOUR, VISITING 16 NORTHWESTERN MINNESOTA COMMUNITIES OVER 6 WEEKS. THE TOUR BEGINS MARCH 7 IN WARREN, AND WILL INCLUDE STOPS IN THIEF RIVER FALLS, BAUDETTE, AND THEN ROSEAU ON APRIL 5TH AND 6TH. AN RSVP IS ENCOURAGED BUT NOT REQUIRED.

THE PRESIDENT OF ALTRU HEALTH SYSTEM IS LEAVING THE COMPANY. DR. STEVEN WEISER WAS LET GO, IN A DECISION MADE BY THE ALTRU BOARD OF DIRECTORS, AND WAS MADE IN THE “BEST INTEREST OF THE ORGANIZATION.” JOSHUA DEERE WAS ALSO NAMED ALTRU’S NEW CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER, AND THEY ARE PREPARED TO WELCOME THEIR NEW CEO TODD FORKEL ON FEBRUARY 28TH.

POLITICAL REDISTRICTING IN MINNESOTA IN BRING SOME CHANGES TO NORTHWEST MINNESOTA. THE 7TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT, REPRESENTED BY MICHELLE FISHBACH, WILL LOSE MAHNOMEN, CLEARWATER, BELTRAMI, AND LAKE OF THE WOODS COUNTIES TO DISTRICT 8, WHILE GAINING MORRISON COUNTY AND PART OF STEARNS COUNTY. THE NORTHWEST ANGLE WILL BECOME PART OF DISTRICT 8. IN LEGISLATIVE DISTRICTS, DISTRIC 1A, REPRESENTED BY JOHN BURKEL, WILL NOW INCLUDE ALL OF PENNINGTON COUNTY.

SENATOR MARK JOHNSON OF EAST GRAND FORKS, ANNOUNCED THAT HE WILL SEEK A THIRD TERM IN THE MINNESOTA SENATE THIS FALL, REPRESENTING DISTRICT 1.

A $5,000 GRANT WAS AWARDED TO THE RIVERBEND SKATE PATH IN WARROAD BY FARMER’S UNION OIL COMPANY OF WARROAD AND CENEX. THE MONEY WILL GO TOWARDS CONTINUED CARE OF THE PATH.

A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL FOR JEFF BENNETT OF ROSEAU WILL BE HELD AT SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH IN ROSEAU ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 28TH (10:30 AM) WITH VISITATION AN HOUR PRIOR. VISITATION WILL ALSO BE SUNDAY (5-7 PM) WITH A 7:00 PRAYER SERVICE AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU. INTERMENT WILL BE HELD AT ST. PHILLIPS CEMETERY IN ROSEAU. JEFF WAS 59.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR REBECCA E. MELBY OF BADGER WILL BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY (11 AM) AT OILAND FREE LUTHERAN CHURCH IN RURAL GREENBUSH. REBECCA MELBY WAS 70.

SOME ICE FISHING VIDEO OUT OF COLLERAINE HAS GONE VIRAL, AFTER AN ANGLER FORGOT THAT HIS FISH HOUSE WAS STILL ATTACHED TO HIS SNOWMOBILE AS HE PREPARED TO TRAVEL BACK TO SHORE TO PICK UP A THIRD ANGLER… THE SECOND ANGLER WAS IN FISH HOUSE AT THE TIME. HE SAYS HE BAILED OUT AFTER THE FISH HOUSE HAD TRAVELED ABOUT 50 YARDS AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, BEFORE THE DRIVER BECAME AWARE. NO ONE WAS INJURED, AS THEY SAID, MORE IMPORTATNTLY NO EQUIPMENT WAS BROKEN.
