THE MINNESOTA POLLUTION CONTROL AGENCY HAS ISSUED AN AIR QUALITY ALERT FOR NORTHERN MINNESOTA TODAY AND TOMORROW DUE TO WILDFIRE SMOKE. THE AIR IS EXPECTED TO REACH THE “ORANGE LEVEL” WHICH INDICATES THE AIR IS UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS.

THIS WILL MARK THE FIRST YEAR THAT JUNETEENTH, JUNE 19TH, IS AN OFFICIAL STATE HOLIDAY WHICH MEANS OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT BUSINESS CANNOT BE CONDUCTED, THEREFORE, ROSEAU COUNTY HAS DECIDED THAT THE COUNTY COURTHOUSE, SOCIAL SERVICES BUILDING, AND HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE FACILITIES WILL ALL BE CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC.

OFFICIALS HAD HOPED THAT HIGHWAY 59 NEAR LAKE BRONSON WOULD BE ABLE TO REOPEN THIS WEEK, BUT CLEANUP OF THE TRAIN DERAILMENT IS TAKING LONGER THAN EXPECTED. MNDOT IS NOW EXPECTING THAT IT WILL BE DONE BY SOMETIME NEXT WEEK.

THE GREENBUSH-BADGER LIONS WILL SERVE A FUNDRAISER PANCAKE BREAKFAST TO ASSIST THE FAMILY OF VICTORIA GREEN. THIS WILL BE SUNDAY, JUNE 25 FROM 9-1 AT THE BADGER COMMUNITY CENTER. SHE WAS IN A SEVERE CAR ACCIDENT WHILE SEVEN MONTHS PREGNANT. SHE REQUIRES ONGOING MEDICAL CARE, BUT THEY CAN SHARE THE GOOD NEWS THAT THE BABY WAS BORN HEALTHY ON MAY 25.

FIRE HAVE BEEN BANNED IN THE BOUNDARY WATERS CANOE AREA WILDERNESS STARTING TODAY AS DROUGHT CONTINUES TO SPREAD ACROSS THE NORTHLAND, EXCEPT IN DESIGNATED AREAS WITH FIRE RINGS. GAS AND PROPANE STOVES ARE STILL ALLOWED IN ALL AREAS.

THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH HAS STOPPED REPORTING COVID-19 CASES, THAT ALIGNS WITH SIMILAR MEASURES AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL. THEY INSTEAD WILL CONTINUE TO FOCUS ON COVID HOSPITALIZATIONS AND MORTALITY IN THE STATE. THOSE NUMBER BOTH CONTINUE TO FALL.
