THE POLAR PLUNGE COMES TO ROSEAU THIS WEEKEND, WITH GENE’S BAR & GRILL THE CENTRAL LOCATION. THERE IS ALSO A CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT FRIDAY NIGHT AND PUB CRAWL ON SATURDAY. PROCEEDS HELP SPECIAL OLYMPICS.

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR STANLEY LAWRENCE SPINA WILL BE HELD THIS SATURDAY (4-8 PM) AT THE WARROAD ESTATES GOLF COURSE CLUBHOUSE. STAN PASSED AWAY ON APRIL 27 AT THE AGE OF 66.

Eric James Jarvis, 47, pleaded not guilty April 18 to a count of intentional second-degree murder in the June death of 43-year-old Kari Jo Petrich.
Court documents state that Jarvis told police he “probably fought” with Petrich but could not recall the circumstances of how she suffered a head injury that resulted in severe bruising and blood loss. But authorities said it appeared she was struck with a blunt object and may have been left on the floor for up to 24 hours while Jarvis cleaned up the crime scene.
The mother of four and grandmother of two likely would have survived, a medical examiner said, had she received immediate attention after the assault. The events happened in Hibbing. Jarvis is a former Roseau resident.

A STAFF MEMBER AT THE MINNESOTA SEX OFFENDER PROGRAM IN MOOSE LAKE WAS AIRLIFTED TO A HOSPITAL FOR MEDICAL CARE AFTER AN ASSAULT BY A CLIENT ON MONDAY. NOT MUCH FOR DETAILS HAS BEEN MADE AVAILABLE, OTHER THAN THE CALL CAME IN AT 1:23 PM, THE VICTIM WAS A 53-YEAR OLD MAN AND THE ASSAILANT WAS A 29-YEAR OLD MAN. HE’S FACING PENDING CHARGES OF SECOND AND FOURTH DEGREE ASSAULT.

THE MINNESOTA HOUSE ALSO CLEARED A PAID FAMILY AND MEDICAL LEAVE, THAT WOULD OFFER 12 WEEKS OF BOTH. THERE WOULD BE A NEW PAYROLL TAX TO COVER THAT COST.

34-YEAR OLD ALEXANDER LEE GOTHBERG OF GRAND FORKS IS FACING MULTIPLE FELONIES RELATED TO A FENTANYL OVERDOSE BY HIS TWO YEAR OLD DAUGHTER LAST FRIDAY. HE CALLED AUTHORITIES HIMSELF AFTER HE FOUND HIS DAUGHTER UNRESPONSIVE WITH A BAG OF FENTANYL POWDER OF THE TABLE NEAR HER. EMERGENCY PERSONNEL TRANSPORTED THE GIRL TO ALTRU HOSPITAL. THE MOST SERIOUS CHARGE CARRIED A MAX PENALTY OF 10 YEARS IN PRISON.
