03/07/2024

Our beloved mother, Marie Yvette Nash, left this earth after a brief but difficult battle with cancer. A fighter until the end, she passed away on March 1st at the age of 81.

Marie Yvette (Battles) Nash, the daughter of Edith (Oliver) and Clinton Everett Battles, was born on August 6, 1942.

She was married on August 6, 1959, in Marshall, MN, to Vernon “Penny” Howard Nash. They resided in Milwaukee, WI, Lexington, KY, and Ashland, KY, before returning to Warroad in 1974. Marie worked as a stay-at-home mother when the kids were young, then worked at the Warroad Pioneer before moving on to a 36-year career at Marvin Windows and Doors in the corporate of ice as a sales representative. Marie loved to follow Penny to the baseball field where he coached Legion and Muskie baseball for over 20 years. Although she was always with Penny at the field, this was more of his passion. Her greatest love, after Penny, was her love of flowers and her dog Harry. She spent countless hours with Harry by her side, preparing bulbs to be planted and transplanted, making small gardens in the backyard, and setting up hanging baskets and various yard decorations to make things cozy. She loved sitting on the back deck with family and friends, cooking out, and enjoying her flowers and conversation.

She is survived by her children: Yvette (Lyle) Johnson-Warroad, Vonda De Molée-Warroad, Brad (Michelle) Nash-Rolla, ND, and Mitch Nash (Char)-Warroad. 14 grandchildren, Rachel (Angie), David (Sara), Antwan (Nicole), Jonathon, Jeffery (Jana), Bryce (Brittany), Roxanne (Justin), Kelsey (David), Robert (Kali), Krysta, Jackson, Georgia, Allyssa, and Lincoln. 13 great-grandchildren, Victoria, Ivan, Olivia, Charles, Gavin, Arianna, Jaisley, Liam, Jazmine, Axel, Kason, Kayden, and Baya. Brother James (Barbara) Battles and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life Vernon, son-in-law Fred, grandson Kyle, father – Clinton Everett Battles, mother – Edith Battles, father-in-law – Forrest “Shorty” Henderson, mother-in-law – Vernabelle (Johnston) Henderson, Siblings – Wesley Battles, Violet and Vernon Thompson, Eugene and Betty Battles, Dennis Battles, Pat and Henry Landin, nieces and nephews
